Getting to the CMLS by the RER B train
More general information can be obtained here
Take the RER line B and get off at the station "Lozère - Ecole polytechnique" (from Paris, you should take a southbound train going towards "Saint-Rémy-lès-chevreuses" or, in some cases, "Orsay-ville" -- it takes about half an hour).
Notice that (1) not every southbound RER B train stops at Lozere. You will have to check on the platform. You should have a display similar to the one pictured below and the light to the left of "LOZERE" should be on.
(North of the station "CHATELET-LES HALLES" the displays just give a list
of the stops). (2) a ticket (different from those for the subway) is required. It costs about 3.40 EUR one way. It also possible to buy a "carte Mobilis 1-4" (9 EUR) for illimited displacements within Paris and between Paris and Lozere for a day.
1. On the platform for trains coming from Paris, take the exit from the RER station closest to the front of the train:
2. Go down to cross the railtracks:
3. On the other side of the railtracks, cross the road and take the small
street going upwards:
4. Take the steepest path instead of following the left-turn of the road
(there is a sign for Ecole polytechnique).
5. Climb this path (which becomes a stairway), turning to the left at
first opportunity (this is an uneven stairway and there is a sign Ecole
polytechnique) again.
6. There is a small gate.
Enter through it and follow the concrete
path.
7. There is a sign on the left of the path, saying "Welcome" in military
parlance.
8. There is a mysterious artifact, probably built by extraterrestrials so
as to extract your energy as you push your way through it.
Map of the campus
You can display a map of the campus with the remaining part of the itinerary
by clicking here.
9. The path crosses a road and then forks. Do NOT follow the red arrow
marked "ACCES LABORATOIRE" and pointing to the right!
Take the left path after the
road and leave the semi-circular buildings on your right.
8. Just after the semi-circular building, you should see the main building.
There is a door marked "ACCES LABORATOIRES". Enter here and follow the
lobby going straight as far as possible.
9. At some point, you have to turn left, right and left (so you keep the
same direction in the end), going through a small hall with vending machines:
10. After that go straight ahead, until you reached the outside through a
double glass door. Exit, go to the right and then to the left.
11. Follow this small road, the mathematics department is ahead on the
left.
12. Congratulations! You're here! Use the phone at the right hand side of
the door to call the party you are visiting (use the four last digit of the
phone number from outside) or the secretary (their numbers are displayed).
