From Arithmetic to Additive Combinatorics, and back

In this survey talk, we mainly discuss how questions on the multiplicative arithmetic of maximal orders of algebraic number fields, and related structures, give rise to problems on zero-sum sequences over (finite) abelian groups. The problem of determining the Davenport constant can be considered as the archetypal example, but there are many others. Moreover, we briefly mention some examples in the converse direction, i.e., we sketch some results on problems that can be considered as pure zero-sum problems that were obtained using "arithemtic notions."
